Aged garlic extract slowed coronary plaque progression — even in people already on statins
In a one-year, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, participants taking aged garlic extract every day showed significantly less progression of coronary artery calcium than the placebo group — measured directly on cardiac CT.
-
Significantly less coronary calcium progression vs placebo over 12 months.
-
Effect held for participants already on statin therapy — i.e., on top of standard care.
-
Improved markers of arterial inflammation and homocysteine.
-
No significant adverse-event signal vs placebo across multiple trials.
